Thanks for visiting my site. However…
To give you some background: I’ve been a New York City-based theater actor for over 40 years, having worked in Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional, and national tour productions. As one of many side gigs, I also worked at H&R Block for 11 years as a seasonal tax preparer. Since leaving Block, I’ve operated my home-based tax preparation practice for the past 20+ years.
Now if you happen to do the math, you’ll realize that I must be getting pretty old… (yes, the photo on this page might be slightly out of date). In fact, I’m no longer chasing show-biz work, and as I further transition into some version of semi-retirement, the time has also come to begin downsizing my tax practice.
As a first step in that process, I’m sorry to say that I can no longer accept new clients as of Jan. 1st, 2026.
Whether you were referred by a current client, or found me via an online search, I understand that this news may be disappointing and frustrating. And from what I hear, there are other long-time, arts-knowledgeable tax preparers in NYC who are also easing out of their careers, or have recently fully retired, thus leading to a relative shortage of solo tax practitioners in the city.
That said, in a city full of artists of all kinds, there are always a good number of larger arts-friendly tax offices out there, with multiple preparers offering a wide range of tax services for both simple and complex situations. Of course, more preparers and a need for more office space generally comes with higher prep fees.
One main goal of my practice was to always keep my fees reasonable, so it pains me that those of you seeking tax assistance, perhaps for the first time, could be facing tax prep fees that may be out of line with your often inconsistent income. Hopefully there will be a new generation of well-trained, reasonably-priced, independent tax preparers coming along to fill the void, so keep asking and searching. Seek out preparers with at least 5 years of experience doing artist’s returns, and make sure they are credible, honest, and (ideally) listed on the IRS website: https://irs.treasury.gov/rpo/rpo.jsf.
Finally, though I can no longer help you out personally, please feel free to explore this website, which I’ll be keeping active for the foreseeable future. There are various info and expense worksheets available to help you organize your professional expenses, and I offer those free of charge. (All preparers have their own versions, but I think mine are among the easiest to use.)
Listen, it’s been a good run, and of course I’ll be continuing to work with my current roster of clients for as long as I’m able. I’m sorry we didn’t have the chance to work together, but good luck in your careers, and thanks for visiting my site…
